UK Freesat
In the United Kingdom as from 2012, we will all have to be able to receive a digital television broadcast as the existing television signal will be switched over to digital for good.
The government decided to release the frequency for use with other applications and changed to digital to take advantage of its ability to offer more better quality programs.
The problem faced by the Government is that quite a few UK households do not live within the range of the digital signal or are blocked by obstructions.
To combat this they decided to take over one of the SKY satellites that orbit the earth and provide a very similar service to FREEVIEW (Freeview is received with an aerial) called FREESAT. This caused some confusion in the beginning as SKY already offered a service called FREESAT which was a paid service and required a SKY viewing card.
However, SKY have now stopped the FREESAT service and have released the channels as free on all SKY receivers. In other words you can receive all the FREESAT channels without a SKY viewing card on any SKY digibox.
FREESAT is now available in homes all over the UK and offers a reliable service. In addition FREESAT has now started to broadcast several channels in HD (High Definition) free of charge to take advantage of the hundreds of televisions able to receive it.
FREESAT can be received on any receiver able to receive F.T.A (Free To Air) channels which includes all of the F.T.A receivers on this site. However if you want to take advantage of HD FREESAT, you will require an H.D television and a HD FREESAT receiver.
For this reason we only stock the FREESAT HD receiver as all of the F.T.A (Free To Air) receivers are able to receive the FRESAT transmission in standard definition.
The FREESAT HD RECEIVER.

The FREESAT HD receiver is different to all the other receivers on this site as it is the only receiver with the ability to receive High Definition broadcast. You will need a H.D television to use this receiver. The unit offers a comprehensive E.P.G (Electronic Program Guide) and has an easy to use interface.
One thing that we would recommend is to power this unit up for the first time in your front room with your existing satellite dish. The FREESAT satellite is in the exact same position and the existing SKY satellites so you will be able to use your existing SKY dish to set up the receiver for the first time. When you turn on the receiver it will ask you for your postcode before it starts a scan of the available programs. Once this receiver has been set up, it will functions perfectly in any other location and will now need to be set up again.
The unit is powered from either 12 or 240v.
This Unit is compatable with any of the satellite dishes on this site.
